1902
(Meiji 35)
Born in Takamatsu, Kagawa.
School days
1921
(Taisho 10)
Graduates from Kagawa Prefectural Marugame Middle School.
Enrolls at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts, Western Painting
Course, and becomes a pupil of Takeji FUJISHIMA.
1926
(Taisho 15)
Gets married to Fumiko KATAOKA. First selected his painting,
'Portrait of a Woman' for Teiten, Imperial Academy of Fine
Arts Exhibition.
1936
(Showa 11)
Establishes Shinseisaku-ha Kyokai,Association of the Artists
for New Works, with 8 members.
Paris
1938
(showa 13)
Goes to Paris with his wife. Visits Henri MATISSE and
obtains valuable advice and instruction from him.
1940
(showa 15)
World War II begins in 1939. It makes him back to Japan.
A painting 'Mademoisell M' is his last work in Paris and
also his best of all his realistic works.
Denentyofu
1945
(showa 20)
Sets up Denenchofu Institute of Art. Works on the mural
painting entitled 'Freedom' for the central concourse in
JR Ueno station in 1951.
Wins the 2nd Mainichi Art Prize for two mural paintings,
'Democracy' and 'Birth of Love' in 1951.
New York
1955
(showa 30)
Moves to New York to make a fresh start in life as a
painter,and stays for 20 years.
Hawaii
1975
(Showa 50)
Transfers his studio to Hawaii because of losing his
health.
1980
(showa 55)
Receives the Honor of the Order of the Sacred Treasure,
Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon.
1991
(Heisei 3)
Receives Marugame Honorary Citizenship from Marugame city.
Marugame Genichiro-Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art
opens in November.
1993
(Heisei 5)
Wins the 34th Mainichi Artistic Award.
Dies at St. Roka International Hospital, Tokyo on May 17.
